VISIT BY HIS HOLINESS THE 14TH DALAI LAMA OF TIBET TO EDINBURGH AND DUNFERMLINE 2-3 JUNE 2004 The exiled political and spiritual leader of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, will visit Scotland’s Capital City, Edinburgh, and the Ancient Capital, Dunfermline, on a two-day visit next summer. From June 2-3, 2004 His Holiness will participate in a number of public and private engagements in Edinburgh and Dunfermline. This visit follows a four day Buddhist Teachings programme in Glasgow (see www.dalailama2004.org.uk) and engagements in both Liverpool and London. The man who describes himself as a ‘simple monk – no more nor less’ is regarded as one of the greatest spiritual leaders of our time. His non-violent approach to the Tibet-China situation has not only won him support and respect from across the world, but also a Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. ‘My religion is kindness' - The Dalai Lama Scottish Parliament Visit - 2nd June Edinburgh based co-ordinators, The Edinburgh Interfaith Association (EIFA) have organised a number of events in both cities for His Holiness. One of his first engagements is a visit to the Scottish Parliament where he will give the Parliament’s weekly and unique ‘Time for Reflection’ and then meet for a dialogue and questions with MSPs, Religious Leaders and Foreign Consuls. Edinburgh Event - 3rd June 3pm Edinburgh will also host a major peace ceremony and concert. This event includes a public talk by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Usher Hall on his ‘Vision of a New Civilisation’. School children from Edinburgh will be given the opportunity to ask questions of His Holiness. This event begins with a World Peace Prayer Flag Ceremony, Scottish and Tibetan music and song and a Schools Choir. This event is ticketed and these are available from Monday 15th December direct from the Usher Hall Box Office 0131 228 1155 - £14.00 (+ booking fee) Dunfermline Events - 3rd June from 9.45am A number of events have been organised at Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff Park, including a meeting and question and answers session with school children and teachers in the park’s pavilion. An outdoor World Peace Flag Ceremony is planned in the park with 200 school children from across Fife participating. His Holiness will also unveil a permanent ‘Peace Pole’ in the park. At the conclusion of the World Peace Ceremony His Holiness will give prayers for World Peace at 12.00 noon. Dunfermline is an open City to all who wish to visit and be part of the historic visit and open air events – currently there are no ticketing requirements.
